PROOFREADING, EDITING AND BUSINESS WRITING: I have found that proofreading and editing are my favorite things to do in my work. One reason is that I receive a great deal of pleasure from making others' writing look better, by correcting grammatical and typographical errors, making sure the writing says what the author means, and generally ensuring that the text is meaningful and easily understandable. The other reason I enjoy proofreading is because I'm very good at it, with errors seeming to jump off of pages (and billboards, TV screens, buses, signs) at me. EXPERT WORD PROCESSING AND DATA ENTRY: I have a wealth of experience using WordPerfect for word processing, having used it almost exclusively from when it first became available until I started my business. However, I also know a great deal about Microsoft Word and continue to learn more, since some of my clients use it. I feel confident enough about my Word skills to say that I am proficient, but I would categorize myself as an expert with Word Perfect. BOOKKEEPING: I have been handling bookkeeping using various versions of Quickbooks Pro software for over ten years. Most of my experience has been with service-oriented businesses, but I have assisted one sales business client with computerizing his records using Quickbooks and teaching him about some bookkeeping principles and how to use the software. (I must confess that he entered all of his inventory items.) I am very honest and ethical and it is important to me that my bookkeeping clients possess the same qualities. In addition to writing or printing checks, dealing with bank deposits, documenting all account activity in Quickbooks, preparing reports for the client, and reconciling (balancing) bank accounts, I also prepare 1099 and related tax forms for my bookkeeping clients' businesses. I do not handle issuing payroll checks and paying payroll taxes, but I am very familiar with how to handle bookkeeping entries regarding both, including complicated payrolls with retirement plan contributions, paycheck advances, insurance payments, etc., when an outside company which specializes in handling payroll is used. I am not an accountant, and I always instruct a new bookkeeping client that I may need to contact their accountant with questions about complicated (usually year-end) journal entries. For some clients, I have handled setting up charts of accounts and entered a year or two of information, at which point I trained them on how to take care of this themselves.
